Prep Time: 10 mins

Cook Time: A few minutes

Total Time: 15 mins

Yield: 6 balls

What You'll Need:

  • Stock pot and candy thermometer or deep fryer

  • Vegetable oil (or other high heat oil), for frying

  • 6 oz goat cheese (use honey goat cheese for added sweetness, if preferred)

  • 1 cup flour

  • 1 egg whisked well w/ 1/2 tbsp water

  • 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs

  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/4 tsp dried parsley flakes

  • tiny pinch kosher salt

  • 1/2 cup fruit preserves of your choice, warmed for dipping (I chose blackberry)

  • A bowl filled with water close by to rinse your hands in between dredging sessions--it gets messy (recommended).

How to Make:

  1. Add vegetable oil to stock pot (w/ candy thermometer attached) to come up high enough to submerge your goat cheese balls (about 3 to 4 inches).

  2. Heat oil over medium heat to 375 degrees f.

  3. Set up a dredging station with 3 bowls in a line, filling the first with flour, second with egg wash, and third with mixed panko, parsley, cinnamon and tiny pinch kosher salt.

  4. Break your goat cheese log into 1 oz chunks, then form the 1 oz chunks into balls, rolling them in between your hands. They should be slightly smaller than a golf ball.

  5. Dredge your balls evenly in each flour, egg wash (drip off excess), and then coat very generously in panko mixture. Move all to plate.

  6. Once the oil is right around 375, using a spider/strainer spoon, slowly drop the balls into the oil, and fry until golden brown (do not overcrowd or let balls stick together). This shouldn't take more than a minute or two. *Have a plate lined with a paper towel on the side to move your goat cheese balls to for absorbing excess grease once finished in the fryer.

  7. Warm 1/2 cup of fruit preserves of your choice either in a sauce pan on low heat or in the microwave for a few seconds until they loosen in consistency. Serve immediately with HOT goat cheese balls on a small platter. See other ideas of how to enjoy below! :)

I'm soooo ready for VPR and can't wait to have these as a snack with friends as we soak up all the drama and degeneracy of yet another season. We have Stassi to thank for this creation, otherwise we may have never known about these savory little treats!
